installing rivets
I am working on some leather bags and want to use some rivets to attach some leather straps. I will be using copper rivets. How much of the rivet shank should stick up past the washer on the opposite side of the rivet head? I experimented on some remnant pieces today and didn't like the results. So any riveting experts out there or at least someone that has some experience with this stuff.

The diameter of the rivet should stick out beyond the rivet, but use something like visegrips to squeeze the rivet in towards the rivet before you pop the rivet.

Found a good leather working site and got all the hot info. I kind of thought my rivets were too long but I wasn't forcing the burr as they call the washer down on the shank. I made a quickie tool to do that and cut some of the leftover shank off,hammered it down and it looks pretty cool on my test piece so now I can try it on the real deal.
