Bottom bracket trouble

Just for starters, It is toodifficult to search for this on my phone and I don't have access to a comp. So I'm sure this has been asked before but...

I removed the bb cups to do some cleaning. Only I can't get the adjustable side back in. Threading is ok (not perfect) but have removed and reinstalled a million times with no problems. It's a 1981 Raleigh (USA).

Thanks

My trick for difficult to start bottom bracket threads is this:

Start by turning the cup in the opposite direction that it is threaded while gently pressing the cup into the bottom bracket shell. At some point, you will feel the cup subtly drop into the shell a little further. This is the point at which the starting point of each thread has just crossed. Immediately stop turning the wrong way after this drop and begin turning in the correct direction.

Using this method gives you the best chance of the threads starting to mesh at the appropriate point whereas simply turning the cup normally could lead to the thread biting in at another point and potentially cross-threading.

Hope this helps.

should also mention that the cup threads in about a third of the way and then sticks.

Are you using a good anti-seize compound? Are the threads clean? Check the threads closely for any defects/dirt/debris. Don't force it.
