$5.48 work stand

Well, technically it's not a work stand, but that's what I'm going to use it for. A $5.48 folding bike storage rack from Lowe's, attached to a fence post in my backyard. I'll use some small bungees to secure the bike to the stand.

There is no great substitute for a real stand. But, you can do a lot with that. I have a stand in my shop. And a hanger like that outside on the wall; some tasks are better done out in the fresh air and sun.

Yes, it would be nice to have a real stand, no doubt. I'll probably mainly use this for cleaning and minor adjusting. I had been looking at possibly doing a DIY stand, but can't decide what I want to do. In the meantime, I'll work with this until I get the urge for something better

I have a simliar product from Wallyworld but the hooks don't spread as far apart as yours, it does ok for holding up a bike but the bike sometimes slides along the hooks and it won't secure the bike as steady as a real bike work stand, the problem was solved after i recieved the Park tool home work stand, makes a real different when working/cleaning your ride.

I ran across it while shopping for other stuff at Lowe's, and I thought what the heck, for $5 you can't really go wrong. At the very least it should make cleaning much easier!

+1, makes a great wash stand for outside, puts the bike up at a comfortable level for washing.

I don't know where you live but unless it's the deep South or Southwest, that's going to be a "seasonal" work stand. I don't think I'd want to be doing bike repairs while up to my knees in snow.

I have one of those set up as well. I originally got it to hang my commuter up so it was off the floor, but quickly realized I can make many minor repairs and adjustments while it hangs on that rack. Sure it would be nice to be able to get to the other side of the bike without removing it and turning it around, but it was about 6 bucks. Works fine for me for most adjustments/repairs.

Cheap Stand

I've got the same Lowes hooks. I mounted mine on a 2X4 with hooks perpendicular it.

I clamp the 2x4 vertically in my Workmate and have access to both sides. Thanks for the tip.

This bikestand cost me $0. I put it together out of some scrap lumber, a bolt I had and an old tube. It works reasonably well for repairs. I greased a headset, adjusted brakes, derailleur, fixed brakes... that kind of thing went well.

It fits my steel tube bikes pretty well, but not fat tube aluminum.

It all fits in a bench vise I have, but you could bolt it to a fence, a barn wall... anything solid.
