Is this Dangerous?

So I have a crappy Swift Arriv wheel set. I heard a rattling while I was riding and found out one of the nipples on the rear wheel came off. I removed tire ,tube ,spoke strip, found the nipple and attached it to the spoke. Now it has happened again and more nipples are coming loose. I road around a bit on it today but I feel like its unsafe. Is it ok to ride like this or should I just buy a new rear wheel?

You need to have your wheels examined by somebody who builds wheels. It's entirely possible that a good retensioning will fix them.

Something caused the first nipple to unthread. Either the rim has been bent or the wheel was very under tensioned when it was first built. I'd have a bike shop look at it to determine if all it needs is truing and proper tensioning or if there is some real damage. In any event, don't ride it with loose spokes.

Thanks, I have a feeling the wheel was never properly tensioned. I'll be sure to take it to the shop first thing tomorrow.

Take the air out of the tires, too. Sounds like this wheel was laced, but nothing else was done past that point in any significant way.

Let us know how it goes?

Good luck!

So yea you guys were right. The wheel needs truing and proper tensioning the shop offered to do it at a price but I am going to try and do it myself since the wheelset isn't that great. I figure It's a good set to learn on.
