Sachs-Huret Eco-Duopar - keep or replace?
Just got a 1984 Trek 620 that has an Eco-Duopar rear derailleur. It is in excellent cosmetic and mechanical shape...so far as I can tell.
I'm planning to take a reasonably long (500 mi+) trip on this bicycle, and I'm a little iffy about keeping the Eco-Duopar. No particular reason why...
I'm considering replacing it with a Shimano XTR (one of the older 8 speed versions) that I will source on ebay (presumably), but I'm not sure it's completely necessary.
I'm about 135lbs and plan to load the bicycle with no more than 30lbs.
Thanks for your input!

Good grief! The RD is one of the least loaded components on the bike. If it's working fine now it will likely be working when cockroaches inherit the earth. Find something else to worry about. like the damn cockroaches

Not only that, but the Huret Duopar is among the best wide-range derailleurs ever made. I have several in service here, including an original Duopar I bought new in 1978 and has been in continuous use ever since (currently on my all-weather commuter bike).

If the Duopar is really in excellent condition, post it on the C&V forum. It may be worth more than the entire bike.
