My Iron Horse Cyclone Road bicycle was damaged in a storm. The front and back wheel were bent and I now have to buy a whole new Wheelset. I use this bicycle for commuting and racing for fun (I'm a college student and can't invest much into the bike for serious racing just yet). The tires are still in good shape and are 700 X 23c. My tire tubes are 700 X 18/23. I found a nice wheelset in my price range that measured 700c X 20MM. I am trying to learn more and more about my bike but I have never had to deal with this before. Does anyone know if this wheelset will work or am I going to have to buy new tires as well? Any suggestions from a more experienced road cyclist?
If the new rims you are looking at are in fact 20mm interior (from bead seat to bead seat) then they are probably touring or hybrid style rims designed for a tire wider than the typical road bike tire. If the 20mm is the external measurement then Panthers007 was right and 23mm wide tires would probably be ok.
All it has on the info sheet is 700c X 20mm clincher. The model of the wheelset is 2009 Vuelta Zero-Lite. I will go back to the dealer's shop and see if I can dig up a little more info. Thank you for stating this. Like I said, I am new and really don't want to mess up.
