Rear Disc Rack on a Non-Disk Hardtail
Buying for the future. Eventually I will get a MTN bike with disk brakes. But for now...
Will a disc designed rear rack fit on a non-disc hardtail?
I am looking at the Bontrager Back Rack II. LBS has them in stock. (I also have a Interchange trunk bag that I would be able to use with my current Interchange rack and the Bontrager Interchange compatible racks)
I plan to move my current non-disk rack from my hardtail MTN bike to my long distance bike. I would like to get another rack for my hardtail MTN bike (commuter). I would like to keep the disc rack option open if I eventually get a MTN bike with disc brakes.
Anyone tried this? If not, I will ride my bike to the LBS and find out and then report back.
Thanks.

yes, disc-racks will work fine with non-disc bikes; you'll just have greater clearance. on a slightly different note, you should check out racks by Axiom (the Streamliner) and Tubus (the Disco); both use a slightly more reliable/stronger design than the Bontrager.

I have the Topeak Super Tourist disc compatible rack mounted on a non disc brake bike without a problem. Basically the only difference with Topeak disc versus non disc racks is that the disc compatible racks are stepped out at the botom to clear the disc caliper. The actual attaching width and arrangement at the bottom of the rack should be compatible with any frame that has rack mounting eyelets on the dropouts.
