Is my BB Shot??

I have approx 4,000 miles on my '06 Giant OCR Limited (Carbon Frame) with a TruVative ISIS Bottom Bracket (original equipment). During my ride today, I heard a creaking. I started to check it out and found a small amount of axial play in the BB - maybe 1/16" at most.
Questions:
1) I have a sprint (12miles) triathlon in 2 days. Can I get 12 more miles out of it with out causing any further damage or do I need to ride the MTB for the event??

2) Is this something that can be adjusted or should I just replace the BB. If relacement is required, any suggestions on what BB to use?

Thanks in advance.

You need a new BB but riding will not cause any damage to your frame just the bad BB. It is also a 10 min fix at a shop if you can get it there.

'lo. Sounds like you just need to tighten that there BB. Check out Sheldon Brown's website for all the deets.

If the bb doesn't sound bad, such as grinding, or feel rough, then 0speed is most likely correct. If you do not have the tools, a LBS might do this for free or minimal charge.

You don't tighten cartridge bottom brackets. You either replace them or you don't. Now if it's loose in the shell that's a different matter, but it's not.
