Folks;

I've bought Hutchinson tires from Nashbar, but their website is not secure, and after having had my credit card number ripped off (can't prove it, but no other explanation makes sense), I'm looking for a place to buy Hutchinson Fusion 2 tires, at a reasonable price.

I've tried the usual locations I know about, and have googled trying to find others, but so far, it almost looks like Nashbar has a monopoly on the Saunier Duval model tire.

Anyone know where to get a couple of them? Without surrendering a Visa account to the general public?

I don't want to sound like a jerk, but have you tried Googling it? I just did ("hutchinson fusion 2 Saunier Duval") and there's several sources out there. Those tires are cheap in the UK! Jenson seems to have them too.

By the way, you may want to update your anti-virus and anti-spyware and run some deep scans. I'd be very surprised if Nashbar had a security problem - it's more likely something with your own machine.

Check out all the "Nashbar/CC number stolen" threads spread out all over BF. The story does seem to have legs. I gather that Nashbar was not directly at fault; but it also seems to me that Nashbar has done exactly nothing to make anyone feel any more confident in them. I, for one, will wait and see what becomes of it and do not plan to use them until there is some reason to think that the problem has been addressed.

Can't you guys use wire transfers? (Just curious, as the credit card system is obviously flawed)

You do know you can always call them on the phone. You don't have to order over the 'net.

Most banks here charge $15-$25 for wire transfers. Check by phone is often free, though some charge $5 for that as well.

I doubt Nashbar is to blame. A major CC transaction clearing company was found to have an insider stealing CC #s some months ago. I had a couple of cards replaced - at the CC issuer's request! - as a result.

If you don't want to use a CC, check and money orders are accepted. But, people can take your acct. # from the check. Money orders can get stolen or lost.

All CC's are under siege these days. Your best bet is to use a CC from a company that has fraud/indentity protection.


But hey, use google. Hutchinson Fusion 2 are available at many other places.

Thanks, and I know you don't want to sound like a jerk. I've tried PricePoint, Performance Bike, and Jenson, without luck. Googling the tire brand turns up very many sales aggregators, whose embedded source is Nashbar. I did find one independent source, in the UK, for $38 estimated with conversion. I can only guess at shipping. What I'd hoped for was a source with good prices and no likelihood of credit card theft.

In regard to the Nashbar security, I urge you to look at the threads noted widely in BF. Very many posters have reported losses with no real explanation other than Nashbar's failed security. Some even report conversations with Nashbar personnel who admit they have a problem. Others report that Nashbar's credit card clearance operation is the source of the problem.

We operate from within a secured and firewalled environment, with up to date server-based anti-virus and anti-spyware. We deny ICMP and lock down ports for incoming traffic not generated as a response from our own queries. It seems unlikely someone would have penetrated our defenses here, in comparison to the widely-reported problems with credit card theft from Nashbar.

I'm sad about this issue, since they've actually been a good supplier. I've spent hundreds of dollars with them, but don't feel I can afford to turn over a credit card number, even by telephone.

use a credit card co that offers "virtual" card numbers, I use citicard and the virtual # is only good 1 time and expires in the following month. No problem with unauthorized charges or "stolen" card #

THIS! Though not always an insider job. Several of the processing companies have been hacked in recent whiles. My CC info was stolen along with a coworkers, neither one of us use the same card or buy from the same places. Another board I belong to has people with the same issues. Credit theft is big business and is often conducted from overseas operations. Get used to it (sad to say).
