Saddle Adjustment - 1973 World Voyageur
 

I just got a 1973 Schwinn World Voyageur, but for some reason I can't find a way to adjust the height of the saddle. I need to lower it, but can't find the appropriate bolt that loosens the seat post. Any help would be appreciated.

There is a pinch bolt on the back of the seat cluster where the seatpost meets the frame. Loosen that up a couple turns to lower the saddle. If that bolt is missing and the post is not loose, you've got a post that is likely corrosion-welded to the inside of the frame and a much bigger problem. If that is the case, check out Sheldon Brown's article on removing stuck seatposts.

The only bolt I see in that general area is a bolt that tightens and loosens a piece of metal that holds a cable (either brake or gear). It looks like it has nothing to do with the seat post.

Nope, that's the bolt you want. If you look closely, you'll see that behind that bolt there is a slot in the frame. The bolt tightens the slot to keep the frame tight on the post.

The cable hanger you describe is actually the less critical element and is just there because the bolt was there already.

There we go! All I had to do was put all my strength in pushing the seat down and it went. Thanks for the help!

Do yourself a favor and loosen the bolt, remove the seatpost and apply a film of grease to the post. Then reinstall. This will keep welding itself in place through galvanic corrosion.

Also, after you get the post back in there, wipe off the grease that is still above the frame and that which was scraped off of the post onto the top lip of the frame. Don't ask me how I know, but if you don't wipe it off you'll have a nice black smear on the inside thigh area of your pants next time you ride.

Haha, I'll definitely consider taking care of the excess grease ;)
