Dura-ace Square Taper Bottom Bracket
Hey all,
I recently acquired a Dura-Ace 7400 series bottom bracket 68x112. This is the adjustable, square taper type. I would like to use this BB as a replacement for the square taper Shimano 68x113 UN52 that is on my Trek 1200. I'm currently using an older RX-100 crank set.
The Dura-Ace BB is stamped with "NJS" on one of the cups. I researched Sheldon' site and understand that "NJS" is a manufacturing standard but other than that should there be any issues regarding taper of the axle? Sheldon seems to indicate NO but I just wanted to double check.
In short, does shimano = shimano when it comes to parts interchangeability, i.e. does the Dura-Ace axle and the UN52 axle share the same tapers?
As a side note, I'm not worried about the 1mm difference in axle width; I'll have enough clearance on the frame to "tune" that out.

Yes, all square taper Shimano stuff is the same taper. You should have no issue using this BB.

that 1mm translates to 0.5mm if the axle spacing is symmetrical

Thank's all for the replies, I'm looking forward to installing this "new" bottom bracket.

NJS = bigger bucks than a regular one. If I were you I'd sell that DA BB and buy 2(or more) brand new UN54s.
If it was Italian I'd buy it from you.

Actually, I bought this on Fleabay for $15. I currently have a cartridge BB on my '91 Trek 1200. While I like cartridge BB's, there is something I enjoy about the fact that I can take the old adjustable units out and do my own maintenance.
