Recommend some cheap but useable brake shoes?

I use Kool-Stops at times, but I can't afford to do that for bikes I pass on to friends. These are usually older bikes with alloy rims that are going to be used for light city riding, nothing hard core and no major hills (downhills) to worry about.

Anyone know of some less expensive but useable--perhaps generic--brand of brake shoes? Link?

V-brake: http://www.niagaracycle.com/product_...ducts_id=10060

Never used this brand but they are cheap and for flat riding, you don't need much to stop anyway.

I never priced or studied them, but places like x-Mart or Sports Depot/Emporium/Chalet/Headquarters/Authority... may have low cost brake pads. Often they bear known cycling company names, like Bell or Schwinn. I'm sure they're not the most refined design or compound, but should work in non-aggressive applications.

Thanks for the tips. These are def. for non-aggressive, flat and recreational riding situations.
