    another cassette wiggling around

Hola. i have a Ksyrium elite wheel with a 105 10spd cassette installed and i have actual play in the cassette, meaning i can wiggle the individual cogs by hand with little effort, even with it pretty dang torqued down. i mean, it just seems loose. i think that i am missing the correct spacer, but do not know for sure. The cassette itself came with a plain spacer (no splines). but even with this spacer in place (behind the lagest cog) there is lots of actual play. Do i need to pick up a Mavic specific spacer? Thanks. Ashe.

You probably need the 2 mm MAVIC spacer in addition to the Shimano spacer. MAVIC cassettes are 2 mm wider than 8, 9-speed Shimano cassettes, the 2 mm MAVIC spacer makes up the difference. The Shimano cassette is 1 mm narrower than the 8, 9-speed cassettes, the 1 mm Shimano spacer makes up the difference. So you need both.

Also make sure that you use a STEEL spacer instead of an Aluminum one. I just recently had a stock aluminum one fail on a customer's bike. Changing it too a steel one solved the problem.

Why haven't they standardized on the cassette or freehub body widths yet for 10 sp.. I have a Bontrager hub and with a Shimano cassette I needed the 1 mm spacer, but did not need it with a SRAM cassette. Seems easy enough for the industry to standardize, since most other components are.

And, Campy 10-speed spacing is different from all of the others.

"They" haven't standardized deraileur geometry, shifter cable pull, bottom bracket dimensions, or any of a dozen other items either. Why should cassette spacing be any different?
