1 1/4" stems and headsets

I have a 1994 Cannondale M700 in excellent condition, but I it has an indexed headset that needs to be replaced, and in order to fit me better, the 150mm stem needs to be replaced with a shorter one. And I need to raise the handlebars, either with an angled stem, or a steerer extension.

Well, I just discovered the *&)$*#* thing has a 1 1/4" steerer.
I'm having no luck finding 1 1/4" parts.
Are these totally extinct, or are there any sources of parts?

Chris King makes that size headset.

Well, this is a *threadless* setup.
I don't see how I could set the bearing preload, (since the adapter would be occupying the place where the cap/bolt was), and there would no longer be a stem clamped onto the steerer to secure it.

At least the CK headset solves *half* my problem.

You could go this route with a new fork/stem/headset.

Bike Friday still sell 1 1/4" threaded headsets that are a lot cheaper than Chris King. Quite a few tandems and MTBs used 1 1/4" threaded stems 'back in the day' but you'll be looking hard for one nowadays.
