Where does the spring go in this gripshifter?

OK, I've got these '02-era (OEM for Trek 800) Gripshifters -- I'm replacing the cable on the right one, but as I was putting in the new cable, I knocked out the small v-shaped plastic spring/ratchet tooth. Where do I put it back? I've uploaded a lot of photos to: http://tinypic.com/a/wxvo/2

There is a space on the shoulder of the inner part of the shifter a bit wider than the arms of the V, and the bump on the middle of the V goes onto the detents on the outer part for the number of gears.

Any chance of indicating which of my photos (if any) shows the space where the V goes?

Oh holy mother of god! I thought those had all broken and gone away by now...

I couldn't determine anything from the pictures. It's pretty self-explanatory.... there's a slot formed by 2 raised pieces of plastic that are pretty close to the size of the spring.

Wait.... 2002??? What the hell did Trek do, buy up SRAM's stock of prehistoric shifters? Those really look like the old, original ones before the X-Rays came out.

    Here's the bike: http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/B...port&Type=bike
The shifters & grips look original. Thanks for your help -- I was able to figure out where to put the V-ratchet.

I had to look those up. I have honestly never seen those shifters before, and I was a bike mechanic back then, too. I guess it's because we didn't sell any bikes that inexpensive. (The shop I worked for then started with MTBs at $300)
