considering the repair cost, I'm starting to think that it might be wiser to unload the bike on CL and pick up a new one from bikes direct. thoughts?

Yep, it's a triple crank. If you have a square taper bottom bracket, the replacement shouldn't cost much. Buy a crank puller for about $20 or have the shop do it... it should take about 10 minutes.

Under BCD in the description, it says 110, 74. The 110 is for the outer and middle rings, 74 is for the granny.
