Repairing presta tubes?
I have two collections: tubes with broken (presta) valves, and tubes that exploded during inflation. Is it possible to use the working valves from the exploded tubes to replace the broken valves? The tubes are a variety of brands, all roughly 700Cx32mm.
(For info, the broken valves are generally missing the dangly bit - sometimes it seems to stick in the pump when removing the pump).

You should be able to swap out stuff like that, however, it sounds like you may have a pump problem. I use a pump that needs an adapter for the presta valve, I use a threaded adapter.

If you have flanged, nutted-on presta valves as opposed to molded-on ones, yes you can switch the valves, but don't have to. Presta valves work perfectly fine without the nut, except that you won't be able to use an air gauge to check pressure.
You might also try improving your pumping technique to avoid breaking off stems in the future. Lot's of folks break off the nuts when removing non-thumblock hand pumps. Don't try working them off, instead give them a sharp karate chop towards the hub and they'll come off cleanly without breaking off the nut.
For push-on heads on floor pumps (the kind that use air pressure to hold to the valve) improvise a pressure relief valve in the head or hose, and bleed the pressure off before yanking off the head.
