Free Hub Conversions

I'm surprised I had not found much info in search here on BF and on line as a whole on this but...

I have a Campy Record 8 speed hub. I'd like to convert it to Shimano 9/10.

Is this possible? Do you know of any online how to type tutorial?

Thanks in advance.

Campy to Shimano sounds unlikely but, again, I have no facts to go with that feeling, and am quite possibly wrong.

Google finds some threads that predate 10-speed gear
https://www.bikeforums.net/archive/in...p/t-12925.html

Someone here will know the answer.

If you found the right parts I'll guarantee it would cost you much more than it's worth. Just sell your hub and buy a DA 9/10 hub. Of course you probably have a wheel, which changes the cost equation.

But then, I'd still tell you to buy a new wheel.

I have heard of spacer sets to respace a Shimano casette to work with a Campy rear derailleur and ergopower shifters but not the other way. I had a 8 speed bike set up that way in about 1995. As I recall Excel Sport still lists reworked casettes for such a conversion for newer 10 speed Campy shifters and derailleurs with Shimano wheels.

As Campy and Shimano have different spline designs you would need a new freehub body for the Campy hub to fit a Shimano casette and I have not heard of such being available.

Oh I know for a fact the part exists. In fact I own a campy wheel set with a Shimano 9/10 freehub on it. But it's a newer, hmmmm maybe 2005, Record hub.

Here is the part: https://www.jensonusa.com/store/produ...ehub+Body.aspx

However I cannot for the life of me find any info that it will work with a late 90's 8-speed Record hub. Nor can I find much info on doing the switcharoo.

At $80 a pop or higher, it still seems you're better off just switching hubs, selling the one you have.

Well this one is laced radial on the non-drive side three cross on the drive side to a Campy Barcelona '92 rim. Hand built by a friend of mine. It's a pretty nice wheel and the hub matches the front. But maybe you are right and I will consider it. I don't mind rebuilding wheels with the same spokes either.
