Campy FD Questions

Three questions given that I have '06(Pre-QS) Veloce 10sp Ergos

1. Will an '09 Centaur FD work?
2. Will a Veloce QS FD work?
3. or is my only option: finding an '06 or earlier FD?

Thanks.

Any of them should work. There seems to be a lot of confusion about QS. All QS does is reduce the dead travel in left finger lever. Both QS and preQS models can execute up to 5 clicks of cable travel with one sweep of the finger lever and the cable pull is the same, but the pre QS shifter requires more travel from the finger lever since more of the finger lever travel causes no cable movement.

Pre QS shifters can be converted to QS with a $6 part, but it does require a complete teardown to install that part.

If you get a QS FD, try routing the shift cable between the cable guide tab and the clamp bolt, rather than routing it over the back of that tab, then under the head of the clamp bolt. That should insure that it will cover the full range of travel with 4 clicks.

Thanks DaveSSS. I am in the process of upgrading Veloce 9 to Veloce 10 and along the way I inadvertently picked up a QS FD. Glad to hear I can use it. As another option, is it possible to use my existing 9sp Veloce FD with 10sp Veloce (my guess is going to be yes)? Thanks again.

Most likely it will work.
