Where did Shimano Tourney fit in the lineup?

Whats the story behind Shimano Tourney? I have an old set of tourney brakes from 70s (80s?) I assume they're low end, but I'd like know more.

Another question...Why are pretty much all new wheels black. And I'm not talking carbon ones. I like shiny bits. Nice polished shiny wheels. But everything is black. Is it just fashionable? Or is there some mechanical benefit?
Tuesdays I work on my hair helmet.

Probably cheaper to paint/anodize it black than it is to polish it up to shiny.

No, it's because it's currently "cool" to have black stuff -- rims, spokes, you name it. I got a great deal on some ridiculously polished & shiny silver-colored Rhynolite rims earlier this year. The black ones were *not* on sale!

I don't know about the 70's or 80's But for at least the past 10 years thats as looooowwww end as it gets. That is the line that goes on the Wally World bikes. The Shimano website does not even feature that product at all.
