SRAM Rival RD max tooth 27t -- just a guideline?

If one is running a compact crank 34/50 with the rival 11-28 cassette and the above mentioned rival rear derailleur, I assume the rear derailleur can handle this in practice?

It's safe to say I'd never use the 50-28 combo, but still curious...

thanks

I can't say for sure about SRAM but Shimano has a similar maximum cog recommendation for their road derailleurs and it's exceeded with boring regularity. The concensus is 28T is a slam dunk, 30T almost always works and 32T is very ify.

Never say never about using the 50x28 combination and size the chain long enough to allow it. The rear derailleur isn't the issue here but chain length certainly is.

I have a Rival drivetrain, and the instructions somewhere say it works with any combination of Sram road parts. And Sram makes a 11-28 cassette so that should be the official limit.
