27x1" tires getting harder to find
 

Looking for any leads on quality 27x1 road tires (25-630). It seems every month there are fewer options. The last ones I bought were Forté GT2 Kevlars, which were rather shatty. Oh hum. I've used the panaracers pasela's too, which were just ok quality-wise. Anything I'm missing that I might want to know about?

the 27" wheel is not as popular as once was. so less demand ,less supply. but if you look at the right places they can be found.try bicycletires.com .

Your not going to find a better rolling tire in 27" than the panaracers,I quit looking for one a couple of years ago.

Have to agree on this one. I've bought from BT.com - decent product, decent prices, quick shipping. All in all, not a bad place.
P.S. I wouldn't mind picking up a pair of 27 x 1 3/8 tires for safe-keeping!

Just curious -- what is it about the Panaracers' quality that leads you to consider them "just ok?" I bought a pair of Panaracer Pasela Tourguards in 27 x 1-1/4 about a year ago and I've been extremely satisfied with them.

Not as nice or as expensive as the Panaracer, but the GT2 is available in that size.

I had one where the sidewalls didn't hold up as well as I would have liked, and another Pasela that had a manufacturing defect evident by a hump on one part of the tire (yes, the tire was seated and reseated properly.) It seems others have has better experiences with them than I have. I might end up going with Paselas anyway, the GT2's are pretty crappy.

I've had trouble finding 27" tires, as well. Got some from my LBS that were supposedly good (continentals of some sort), but they are poorly manufactured (the tire itself is well out of round).

Look online & there are plenty of 27" tires available. BUT, you are right, fewer 27" x 1". I have plenty 1 1/4 ". Most I have seen are the more inexpensive grade tires, though. Panaracers are good. I believe these tires will be around a long time due to the increase in old bike owners pulling these bikes out of the closets. Same with the Schwinn specific [ S-6 ] 26 x 1 3/8 tires. I have a buttload of both.

I like the Paselas quite a lot, for the ride quality. The sidewalls are thin and therefore vulnerable, but that's a tradeoff to make in order to make the ride light and lively.

This sort of crap is happening more and more often. Unfortunately, with everything getting outsourced as fast as the corporate arm can go "Ka-Ching" (pun intended), it's only going to get worse. And stores can only sell what their distributors stock, so.......
When I found out that the last American-made bicycle tire (Carlisle) ceased production in 1987, I about fell over. I never though it was that long ago!
