? on STI to DT

So I have a backup bike which is a 9spd triple with 105 components. I managed to blow the FD STI lever and I am looking at replacing it with a DT lever. Do I need a specific DT for 9spd triple or will any lever work since I am only looking at replacing the FD? Anyone know a good source, I would prefer to keep this under $50.

Thx

Any downtube lever will work. Although it will be in friction.

Do downtube levers come in triple indexed??

I'm sure you can get a nice set of suntour or simplex retrofriction shifters on ebay. They are supposed to be one of the best friction levers made. I recall in 89, Greg Lemond had a full Campy setup but didn't use the crappy Synchro II shifters but instead stuck with the simplex.

On a similar note, does your current ride have downtube braze-ons to accomodate a shifter? You might want to ask in the mechanics section about downtube compatibility. I've heard in the past of some sort of shimano propriorty braze-on mount where you would need an extra sleeve/washer if you went the suntour/simplex route. Then again, you can always find any shimano left dt shifter. If you don't have dt braze-ons but only brazed on barrels for your STIs, you might want to get a barend shifter instead...or even some sort of thumbshifter??

I dont think you need to replace your FD unless you damaged that as well.

Here you go..
