Can you purchase JUST the cantilever spring?
I bought a chain tensioner that uses a cantilever spring for tension. It works great, but I've noticed that the ends of the spring which pivot and stay stationary are kind of short. I was considering on picking up a cantilever spring that matches the one I have, however, longer pieces to really "bite" in and have more stability.
I've been googling and looking around, but I'm not seeing anything. Regardless I was going to call the LBS in the morning, but I figured I'd ask around here to see what you guys think.
You said it works great... but you want to change it?
Anyhoo, I bet the spring is a stock item from a spring manufacturer. Call around if you are really worried. Sounds to me like a solution to a problem that doesn't really exist.
It's not a big problem but, when I had the tensioner in my hands I was moving it back and forth to test the tension and if you put enough load on it (less than I thought it would take, but more than the chain probably endures) the short "eyes" of the cantilever spring pop out of place, which I'm almost certain is due to the short size of those two pivot joints.
It's just one of those things that considering it's a small spring and I DO see a small margin for error on the trail with it (unlikely, but possible) I figured I'd just look into grabbing one and maybe using this as a spare in case the other spring ever fails down the road.
