Problems with installing new shifting system
Just changed my gear system from and eight speed Shimano to an nine speed XT and encountered two problems.
1. When I pedal backwards the wheel also spins backwards instead of being unaffected by the crankarms. I'm guessing that I did something wrong when i changed the rear cassette, but what?
2. I cant get the rear derailleur to align with the smallest sprocket och the cassette when adjusting it. Even if I screw the b-screw counter-clockwise until it totally unscrews, the der won't be directly under the smallest sprocket.
I'd appreciate all the help and input I can get.

1.your freehub may got some dirt in it . flush out with wd-40,replace with oil like triflo.
2. only use the b -screw to adjust the height of the pulleys,chain to the teeth of the cog.you need to adjust the h (high) screw for the dérailleur to drop to the smallest cog. you may also need to readjust the cable for it to drop in gear.

Thanks for the help.
Didn't need to grease the freehub. I noticed that the new cassette had som small bolts on the back which pressed against the plastic disc that protects the chain from jumping into the spokes.
My old cassette didn't have these bolts so I didn't notice that this was the problem until I inspected it for differences compared to my new cassette.

no need to grease the hub if you do it can get hard with age and keep the hub from working right as you have found out.the bolts you are talking about is to keep all of your gears as one unit. back in the day we use to remove them to change the cog from one size to another. but since no one does it anymore.I'm glad to be of help to you. that what we are here for.
