Stem Shifter - Shifter bounces back to the original position.

Just got a vintage Miyata road bike and realized the stem shifter on the right hand side is kinda strange. When I change to a lighter gear, the shifter always bounce back to the first gear unless I hold the shifter on that certain gear position. What can I do to fix this kind of problem?

Thanks

There should be a way to adjust the friction in the shifter. It may be a knob or loop of wire. You need to add some friction.

That make sense but I just can't find that knob/loop to adjust it. Any idea? I looked at the rear derailleur but can't find it.

Not on the derailleur; on the shift lever. With stem shifters it's often the screw on which the lever pivots. Give it a tweak with a screwdriver and see if it helps.
