Where to find downtube cable stops?

I have a Raleigh Technium 440 that I'm restoring for one of my room mates.

Everything is going well, however the plastic double cable stop on the underside of the downtube is broken into half, and no longer bolts to the frame.

The LBS I checked out didn't have one - and the only one I can find online is a nice metal one @ Rivendel Bicycles. I'd prefer not to spend $18 on this part though, although the riv bike one would probably out last the technium frame.

Are there cheaper options available elsewhere?

A reasonably well stocked bike shop should be able to fix you up with a Jagwire stick-on cable guide and cable stop insert.

Oh man!

I had one but I've either thrown it away or stashed it somewhere that I can't find easily. I'll keep looking.

I have a clamp on down tube double cable stop, but it's the wrong diameter for your Technium.

Sorry.

are you looking for a cable housing stop of some type or a cable guide that bolts to the bottom of the BB shell?

Raleigh Techniums were their own animal. The double cable stop was a plastic piece that screwed into a fitting under the down tube and about 5 or 6 inches from the head tube. I took the one off of my Technium when I converted it to fixed gear. Unfortunately, I reasoned that's such an unusual bike that I probably threw away the part.

IC that is likely going to be a hard part to find.

Something like this could possibly be made to work.

https://www.novacycles.com/catalog/pr...roducts_id=595

Back in the day I had a Raleigh Technium 400 that came with stem shifters. But I thought downtube shifters were much cooler so I fashioned a downtube clamp out of some white thick wall PVC and homemade shifter bosses to mount some DT levers to. It looked kinda funky but it worked well. I rode that bike with that setup for years. I don't know whatever became of that DT cable stop either.

I recently machined an aluminum cable stop for a friend who has a Technium 400. He had not ridden it for years due to the plastic down tube cable stop being broken and a replacement was not available fom Raleigh even years ago when it broke. He also told me that at the time the LBS could not find a replacement or substitute either.

The original, and my replacement, mounted to the frame via a standard 5mm mounting boss that looked like a single water bottle holder mounting boss.

The Tektro clamp-on stop linked to by Panthers007 should work if the correct diameter for the downtube. With the popularity of SS/FG conversions and use of FG frames for IGH conversions there are a lot of parts like that available now which were not available in the past. Maybe too the Internet has made it easier to find them.

Can't find this plastic double cable stopper for 1986 Raleigh Record. I tried to measure the downtube but had to measure wrong because I came up with 3 14.

You could go retro and get a Campy cable stop (only 40 bucks on ebay!)

Campy stuff is cool, but you can also find similar Shimano and Suntour parts on ebay for way less $. I rebuilt my '73 Super Course from a stripped bare frame that I found that needed everything. Ebay is your friend. I'm sure they were less than $15. I did break down and spend $36 for the lower cable guide that was also missing when I couldn't find a Suntour. Both shown below:

(For $11 the Rivendell part is also hard to beat). Lots of choices.

Slightspeed, I agree: SunTour stuff is terrific. They really beat out Shimano in the early derailleur design improvement battle.
I just stripped all the Nuovo record stuff off my Paramount and will be selling it. The Campy stuff was all great, but the Suntour ratchet bar end shifters I used were absolutely wonderful.

Looks like a sweet setup on your Raleigh. They made some great frames. I had a 531 Competition (in Lavender!) that was wonderful. Got stolen in college, though. Enjoy your Super Course.
