I'm guessing what you need is a small standard compression coil spring of some size; like a ball point pen spring, only shorter (heck, if you found one in the right diameter and cut it to length it might work in a pinch). Your only option is probably going to be an industrial hardware supplier, but most of them aren't very accessible unless you work in an industrial maintenance department, although you might try McMaster-Carr http://www.mcmaster.com/#
, they even have a branch in Jersey.

p.s. if this route is possible it might be handy to have a digital caliper to measure the
spring dimensions; i.d., o.d., wire diameter, free (uncompressed) length, etc.
