Tiagra front derailleur worn out spring?
I'm running a Tiagra 4503 front derailleur. I've got about 6000 miles on it, and I use it to shift more frequently than I probably should. On my last few rides, I've noticed the derailleur isn't returning entirely to the hard click position after I "trim-up" when I'm on the middle and large chainrings.
Example: Shift to large ring, small rear cog. Downshift in the rear, release trim in the front, front trim only releases halfway.
Anyone else have experience with this?

A frequent cause of the sluggish return movement of a deraillauer is excess friction between the cable and housing. Try putting some lube down the housing while shifting through the gears (to help the lube work its way into the housing).

Or new cable. (They're cheap - get stainless steel.)

If you choose to buy a new cable be sure to replace the cable housing as well. The housing is at least as important as the cable for good shifting performance.

I've found that to be true of certain sections, like the loop at the rear derailleur, where the housing takes a lot of lateral pressure. But with modern lined housing the maxim to replace both together seems like overkill. I'll replace just the cable (with a little lube down the housings), then the housing as necessary. So far so good.
