    What is this bracket?

I don't remember where I got this or what it was attached to, but I used it as shown to attach a rack to daughter's 80s Japanese mixte, which had no other way to do so. As you can see it's roughly U shaped, with the flat arms of the U turned 90 degrees. Any idea what this is or where I can find one?

    Thanks,

    Al

I don't know what it was but I like what you used it for! it may have been some type of cable hanger that came off the seat binder.

    Cable hanger maybe?

It looks sort of like the bracket that was on a pulley I pulled off a girls frame that attatched to the seat binder and did the turnaround for the canti brakes (except obviously the one I took off had a pulley)

Thanks, BG! I think you're right, it was attached to a seatpost bolt on one of the bikes that have passed through our family's hands. In fact I'm sure you're right. What it was doing originally I can't recall. One of the holes even had that 'keyway' from the binder bolt, and I had to drill it out to fit the screw from the rack's struts. Now I at least know where to look in the bins at the co-op.

You posted while I was writing, Otto, and you are probably right, it was involved in hanging the straddle.

Lol. You could've just p-clamped it to the two seat stays. Extremely bad hardware used in that installation as well

    1) Phillips head
    2) No nylock nuts
    3) No washers anywhere

If I find a couple (likely) one is yours, BG.

And thanks for your post, operator. I had a rack to get on the night before daughter's school, so not being a pro like (obviously) yourself I just made do. But I do appreciate the helpful comments.
