Need Part: Zipp 282 Cassette Body Spring

Need Part: Zipp 282 Cassette Body Spring
I have an older set of Zipp wheels and Sunday I broke the spring that holds the pawls in place on the Cassette body. I contacted Zipp, they don't sell replacement springs. So the next move was to look into a 282 cassette body which they don't sell for my wheel either. Apparently when zipp was bought out they cleared out their older stock. I also called some local bike shops who said they had some at one time or another but no longer do. So my options are buy a new Hub which is 350 plus dollars for a tiny piece of medal or someone on here has one. Thanks in Advance!

I'm guessing what you need is a small standard compression coil spring of some size; like a ball point pen spring, only shorter (heck, if you found one in the right diameter and cut it to length it might work in a pinch). Your only option is probably going to be an industrial hardware supplier, but most of them aren't very accessible unless you work in an industrial maintenance department, although you might try McMaster-Carr https://www.mcmaster.com/#, they even have a branch in Jersey.
Otherwise, "best of luck".
p.s. if this route is possible it might be handy to have a digital caliper to measure the
spring dimensions; i.d., o.d., wire diameter, free (uncompressed) length, etc.

Take detailed measurements of the spring. Be as accurate as possible. Then go to the following website and find the closest match: www.centuryspring.com
If you don't feel like ordering $40 worth of that spring, let me know and I'll throw a couple in with my next spring order. It'll save you the trouble of setting up an account too. Since I'm feeling generous, if you can't measure the spring yourself, you can send it to me and I'll spec one out for you. Post a picture first though so I can be sure it's not some wild custom design.

Hey guys thanks for the responses. Though they call this a spring... Its more like a thin circular wire that overlaps itself. Looks like this:
Zipps are beautiful in terms of the simplicity but finding replacement parts is a pain. I'm thinking i can practically make the part. But was seeing if i could find a source for these things and buy a bunch.

That would be a torsion spring. I'm certain you could find something at Century Spring either off the shelf or to use as a start for making one. Making your own isn't as easy as it might seem. Springs use spring-tempered wire and are stress-relieved after winding. If you wound one yourself, it would quickly relax offering much less tension than it did originally.

Glad there's a spring expert on BF. I'll look into measuring although its kinda of all beat up after it broke. Again thanks for the help.

Well It turns out I was able to order them after all but through a presistant Worker at Halter Cycles who was on the phone with Zipp for awhile. I don't know what zipp deal is... I guess they dont want to sell replacement parts to customers and you buy a whole new hub. IDK But I'm happy i dont have to fork over 400 for a new hub. They charged me 4 bucks for 2 replacement springs.
