Do Tektro aero levers require special ferrules?

Just installed some Tektro R200 aero levers.

Put some standard flat end ferrules on the cable housing before inserting them into the levers.

The lever action felt a little grinding and not so smooth.

Took the ferrules out, and the action doesn't feel particularly improved. Still feels like there's grinding of the cable against the edge of something.

Do these aero levers require a special kind of ferrule?

Or is that just the natural feel of these levers?

These are my first aero levers, so I'm coming fresh from the feel of non-aero levers.

    Thanks.

I've used them on a couple bikes and never with a special ferrule. I've not had your experience. Are you sure you dressed the end of the housing cleanly?

I used park tool cutters, and used a file to smoothen down the gnarled edges and cut away any blockage of the hole with exacto. i also usually cut off a mm or so of the rubber housing at the ends.

Anything else I should be doing to the housing ends?

Do the Tekro levers require any ferrule at all?

    Thanks!
