Old Crank & New BB

I have an older set of Dura Ace cranks tapered BB....I wanted to up grade to the newer stuff 2 peice design Cranks. How ever if I just but a really good old tapered school BB and upgrade the Basic Heavy Steel BB I currently have will is be a better investment...They do work & look fine. It is a money issue.
Thanks.

The new Hollowtech II cranks require a completely different bottom bracket than square tapered cranks. If that is what you are asking.

Actually, I wanted to know if a newer BB old school but high quality light weight is a better value than going to a new 2 peice design?

You'll spend a lot less getting a high quality cartridge BB and using your current cranks instead of moving to Hollowtech II and I seriously doubt you'd notice any real difference.

He'd spend a lot less just sticking with what he's got.

hammerdog, what's the purpose of this "upgrade"?

Well I would like to make the old girl a modern lighter steed....The cranks are old school 8 speed Dura Ace with heavy Tapered BB......The newer stuff is pretty...I saw a PhilWoods BB for about a $100 saving about 100 grams and also ensuring a quality ride

Phil wood makes some awesome stuff. Their bb's are not one of them. 3 piece design FAIL. What bb do you have on that bike? If it's the matched dura ace square taper it's already a very nice setup.

+1 this. Chances are the OP's Dura-Ace crank is already sitting on a Dura-Ace bottom bracket, and they don't get much better than that.

If there's nothing wrong with the current bottom bracket, why bother changing it?

$100 to save 100 grams?

Sheesh... just take a leak before you ride; it's free.

It's 100g in the least relevant spot as well.
