I need a new Shimano rear derailer spring
I have an XTR rear derailer. Spring where the pully cage mounts to the derailleur is were the broken part is.
Is there a source of those springs? Are the springs the same as other shimano derailers?

I compared the springs that I could easily get to between an XTR M971 RD and a Deore M531 (I think). The extension spring inside of the parallelogram and definitely not the same. XTR uses a larger diameter spring with different end configurations. The torsion spring where the derailler bolts to the derailler hanger is also different. The XTR spring has more coils, is longer in length, and has different length ends. The only other spring is the one you are looking for. Given the totally different way the pulley cage mounts to the derailler body for XTR compared to Deore, I'm almost certain the spring is different.

Shimano sells something labeled "Upper Bolt and Spring Assembly" through QBP, from which your local shop can order. They list three, two of which are labeled as XTR (different derailer #s). Based on the list price I don't imagine that a shop would charge more than $20-25 for it, but who knows.

This guy claims to have a replacement part for an M960, not M952. I emailed him, but as he is likely Japanese so there might be a communication problem.

Well, from his ad this says it all for me
"7-1/4 ringed design reduces consumption so as to prevent instability while shift at high speed obtain perfect force."
ps encourage me and I might go look at what old XTR derailleurs I have...

It's called a P-tension spring, Part #: Y-5U5 19000
Shimano doesn't list compatibility for that part so...

Try Niagara Cycle Works. I've never bought from them, but they seem to carry alot of small parts. Under "Derailleurs", then "Derailleur Small Parts", Select Shimano under the Manufacturer pulldown, and go to the third page. Not sure of that is the part you need.
