    Getting Headset Right

I am sorely lacking in knowledge of headset specs. This was proven when, during a recent component upgrade on my '09 Fuji Team Carbon, I purchased a carbon headset (1 1/8" integrated) to go along with the carbon theme that I was pursuing with other components. Turns out that the Cane Creek IS-8 that I purchased featured 36/45 bearings, and I needed 45/45.

A look on the Cane Creek site didn't help since the headset fit finder feature required data that I don't know and could not find on the Fuji site.

Googling the model number of the headset that came on the bike, VP-A46ACM, revealed that that headset is actually manufactured by VP components under license with Cane Creek. Thing is, on the headset FAQs of the VP site it states:

Which Integrated Road headsets are the same size as Campagnolo's?

VP-A46ACM & VP-A46RCM (41.8 mm Outer Dia. bearings / 42 mm Inner Dia. head tube).

This seemingly implies that the bearings are Campy compatible. Would this be correct for a Fuji Team? If so, then I should be shopping for a replacement that is Campy compatible, right?

I'm looking at FSA alternatives here http://www.fullspeedahead.com/fly.as...layout=product, specifically the Orbit CF or Orbit CE Plus.

Am I on the right path? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Yes, you want a Campagnolo 41.8/42mm at insertion headset. Several manufacturers make headsets in this size. Check these links:

Thank you for your assistance! One question, though. Does the Campy 41.8/42mm at insertion mean that it will also be 45/45, which is required?

Headsets used to be such wonderfully simple things... progress? Alas. (sigh)
