Problems patching 20-28mm tubes?

Anyone using 20-28mm tubes in their 28mm tires ? I'm a bit concerned about the amount of stretch required of the tube. The patches I'm using don't appear to stretch and I've just had a patch fail. My LBS doesn't carry 25-28mm tubes, but these are available online albeit I haven't found a cheap source.

Anyone else experienced a failure that they attributed to excessive stretch of the tube versus patch?

FWIW, I'm using Specialized tubes.

If the patch is put on properly it shouldn't come off. Make sure that the mold release is sanded off and let the glue dry for at least 5 minutes.

I use 18-25mm tubes in my 28mm tires, have a couple of patches, no problem. Note that these are vulcanized rubber patches (the traditional kind), not instant stick-on patches with which most people don't have good luck (though a few have had consistent success).
