    Noobity:1st Road Bike Build. Crankset Help

    building my gf a road bike.

    i have an aluminum frame & carbon fork w/ headset from performance.

    i recently purchased 09 tiagra shifters and have a good pair of alex wheels.

    i just got my order of shimano 105 FC 5502 crankset (53/39).

    i know that i have to use an octalink BB. is there a specific size that will fit the crankset and my frame?

    You need to measure the OD of the Bottom Bracket shell This will give you the width of the BB. From that point you can figure the length of the BB spindle. Just as a WAG I think that you can use either a 68 or 73 bb with a spindle length of some where around 117.

    It should be a 68X109.5 according to shimano. http://techdocs.shimano.com/media/te...9830612168.pdf

    Correct. Octalink bottom brackets were only made in two length, 109.5mm for double cranks and 118.5 mm for triples.

    I am nearly certain your frame is English threaded with a 68 mm bottom bracket shell width. 73 mm bb shells are pretty much limited to mountain bikes

    There are two versions of Octalink (v1 & v2) that aren't compatible with each other. Be sure to get the right style bottom bracket.

    Good point. I neglected to say the OP needs a V1 series bb for his 105 crank.
