Re-cabling Shimano 200gs shifter on Trek 820 Antelope

I'm looking to re-cable the derailleurs on a 1992 Trek 820 Antelope
with the original Shimano 200gs components. The push-push shifter
currently works fine, but the cable is a rusty and frayed, so I'd like
to replace it before it snaps completely.

I haven't been able to figure out which screw to remove so that I can
get access to the cable anchor point on the shifter without the entire
shifter coming apart on me. Is the big screw on the bottom just
holding the cover on, or does it keep the entire mechanism together?
I've read on some sites that there may be a hatch that gives me
access, but I couldn't identify this on my shifter.

I've attached some photos of what I'm up against. Thanks in advance
for any advice.

Cable exits near those grey levers. Release it to the smallest cog and look carefully. You may need to depress the lever slightly. It's funny you took pictures of every angle except the one that allows you to see where the cable exits

Wow, thanks for the quick reply! I think the reason I missed that angle before was because it was difficult to get a good picture from that side. But after several tries, I got it.

Can I safely remove that screw at the bottom without the shifter completely coming apart?

Thanks again!

That white piece - you can see the cable head there.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I *did* see the cable end when I took the picture, thanks!

I'm still not sure if I can remove the bottom screw safely, but now that I think of it, I can probably poke the cable out without having to disassemble anything.

Right, don't take anything apart. The cable just pushes out.
