Crankset Play

I just bought a Sram rival crankset but its missing the spacers for a 68mm bottom bracket. Do you need to buy them separate or was the kit supposed to have them in it?

The directions say for 68mm width bottom bracket, you need to use 2 2.5mm spacers. No spacers were included in the kit, and yes its bottomed out. The frame is a 2009 CAAD9.

ok there shouldnt be any side to side play if the crank is bottomed out. even if you needed the spacers the crank would only be shifted 2.5mm to the right.

Sorry, no the arm is not bottomed out. The whole crank slides from side to side. I need, per instructions 2 2.5mm spacers to move the bearings outward. Why is the set missing them?

Because it's supposed to come with your BB. At any rate, you don't need those spacers for a 68mm shell. Where are you getting this information?

None of the sram manuals indicate spacers for a 68mm, road crank. We are talking about the sram gxp 'team' bb right?

Yes, here is a picture. The black spacers are missing and it wont allow the arm to bottom out. I sent the seller a message but doubt I will get any help. And if I do it will be very slow.

I'll doublecheck the floor bikes in about 11 hours, we have a set of those spacers in the shop.

ok NO SPACERS for 68mm road shell/road crank. the left/non drive side crank when installed bottoms out and captures the non drive bearing. the right/drive side may have a slight gap and wont touch the drive side bearing/seals. maybe you confused about bottoming out the drive side. sorry was not clear about how the crank bottoms out. you only need the spacers for a mountain gxp crank. did you even look at the rival manual (not the bb manual)?

Nope.

Just checked a floor bike. You need those 2.5mm spacers, exactly as stated in the BB manual - 2 x 2.5mm needed for 68mm shell and none for the 73mm. And this is true for

1) Sram rival road crank
2) Sram gxp 'team' bb

Thanks operator, yes I need the spacers to take the play out. The question is where should I get them? Send Sram an email? I should have come with them but they were missing.

Wait for a response from SRAM. Failing that - aftermarket spacers for BB's are to be found many online outfits - or ask your LBS.

Example:
