1995 Schwinn Moab .3 -- is this bend supposed to be there?

Just picked this up and I'm overhauling it. There's a bend in the chainstay that looks like it is supposed to be there, but I'm not sure. The only reason I ask is because there are a few funky bends in this frame that I know are supposed to be there, because they're similar to a later model Moab 2 that I have. The wheel sits straight, and everything lines up. Anybody have/had one of these that can comment?

I was afraid of that. It's weird, because it's such a smooth bend, it almost looks like it was on purpose.

Yes, it's supposed to be there. It's Schwinn's signiture chain-slap reducing bent chainstay.

I have one of those bikes also and like it alot i just had the rear brakes fall apart on me a few weeks ago, actually the brakes have this plastic spring retainer and it broke. i found a new altus cantilever brakes on ebay but they look different. But that bike is solid. Only other problem i had was with the front shocks they seem to be leaking something black, I think it might just be water. Does anybody know of any replacement shocks/forks?

Chain slap reducing or not. If it was mine and I was going to do much offroad riding I'd still wrap it with a long slice of old innertube ala road bike bar tape.

Until I saw that ad copy I was nodding my head in agreement with wanderer....
