v brake types
i have a 700c hybrid fork with brake studs on order. the plan is to install the fork on a bike with 700 x 28mm tire and an sks fender. aside from a compatible brake lever i see mini, bmx, and mtb v brakes. it is hard to find much info on size, it would seem the mtb is the correct one for my application, but i have seen the mini sited in some road applications and the bmx has some deals on a brake, lever , cable combo. i just swapped out the brakes on my trek 800 for mtb v brakes, that's my sole experience with that class of brakes. will the mini or bmx be suitable for my application?

If you have long-pull road levers like the Tektro RL520 you can use regular, full-size V-brakes. If you have brifters you'd either have to stick with cantis or use travel agents... there have been lots of past threads about those.

i have flat bars with rapid fire shifters and will get the correct mtb type v brake lever when i order the brake. i am interested in how the mini, bmx, or mtb v brake effect the braking power, feel and fit on my application.

I run mini-Vs with Dia Compe 287v levers on a roadish hybird set up with drops. Works great.
On a Trek 800 you might want to consider a brake booster on the rear stays. The fork is beefy enough not to flex. I did this on my daughter's Trek 830 when I converted it to Vs. Top |
