Derailers?

Does it really matter exactly what kind of REAR derailer you use on your MTN Bike? My bike have 7 sprokets on the back. I need a new one.

thanks

Bikes: Catrike 559 I own some others but they don't get ridden very much.

Of course it matters.

Shimano rear derailleurs won't work with SRAM ESP shifters and vice versa. Rear derailleurs are rated for large cog size and for chain wrap capability. You can't cheat on those specifications very much.
