Why can't I find the correct grip/twist shifter ????

I have a reproduction bike, Raleigh Metroglide 6 , that I am trying to get back on the road. It looks like the bikes I rode as a kid. I am not a great bike mechanic, but can do OK. This bike has an SRAM MRX 200-60 grip shifter for the rear 6 spd, SIS derailler. I find very little mention of a Raligh Retroglide 6, online,, but tons of info on the Retroglide 7.
OK,,, the grip shifter is broken & I am having trouble finding a replacement. Sure, I find SRAM MRX shifters online,, but the shifting to different gears is backwards than mine. See pix. Mine has #6 at the bottom, & #1 at the top. All I find are the opposite.
Next ??. I have a 7 spd shifter with the same shifting order as the broken 6 spds, but it won't shift correctly when hooked up. I, also, have a rear wheel with 7 spd cassette on it. Will the seven spd grip shifter,, && 7 spd replacement wheel work with the original SIS rear derailler ??

You may want to look into the Shimano Tourney SL-RS41-A. These are 6 speed - close to the same design. Cost maybe $20 for a set.

With a matched rear derailler and shifter set, the wheel with the 7 speed cassette will work. Some SRAM grip shifters are designed to work with Shimano's rear deraillers (2:1 pull ratio or something like that). Some are not and only work with SRAM rear deraillers (1:1 pull ratio).

If you want 7 speed shifters - look for Shimano Tourney SL-RS41-A (same model as 6 but also comes in 7 speed as well and is probably your best choice) also there is Shimano SL-RS41 Rapid Rise , Sunlite model# Twist (7 speed) and of course the Sram MRX-Comp (comes in either single or both sides). Sram RSP is not Shimano compatible.

It might be different order just because of the way the cable is routed inside the shifter? You could always buy one of the online ones (MRX COMP) and try it. They are only $8 from Jensonusa.com https://www.jensonusa.com/store/produ...p+Shifter.aspx Probably would work? I have a feeling they changed which direction the cable is pulled (under shifter or over shifter) which would change the number order.

But, I am no SRAM expert. Just my thoughts.

The SRAM shifter you have is designed to work with Shimano derailleurs and cassettes or freewheels. It;'s the 2:1 ratio, usually an MRX-XXX series.

It's not a high end shifter, so it shouldnt cost much. How the numbers go- up or down- have no affect on the function of the shifter or derailleur.

Sram mrx 6 speed shifters will work perfectly.

The shifters are functionally identical in every way. Both shifters require twisting in the same direction to get the same results... the only difference is that on yours the numbers on the shifter turn with the grip and the pointer stays still, but on the newer models the pointer turns and the numbers stay still.

Sram mrx 6 speed shifters will work perfectly.
