Dia Compe 287V compatabilty
hello
i was running diacompe 287v with a pair of 1990s xt vee brakes. i found that i just couldn't get a decent pull on them, plus the springs on the brakes seemed pretty shot. so i changed the brakes without really thinking about the compatibility of the levers (i figured if they didn't work with vee brakes then surely they would work with something else). So i am now running Dia Compe 287V levers with Avid shorty canti brakes. i still seem to have a problem, the brakes are really hard to adjust properly and squeal like a stuck pig. i have to pull for ages before they get contact and the brakes dont feel nearly as "positive" as i think they should,
so... is it a compatibility problem, or have i just adjusted them poorly?
Cheers

The 287V levers need to be used with V-brakes.
Either go to standard pull levers with the cantis or use the 287v with v-brakes or you'll never get good performance.
When you have the levers and calipers installed, check the brake arms are moving freely and spring back when released. Then look at your cabling. Use new housing and new cables, check the housing runs in smooth bends and doesn't kink at the ends. Run the cable and ensure it moves freely through the housing. Connect and set up the pads and all should be fine.
