Spacing a single frame to 145mm OR respacing DT Hugi hub

Someone donated some very nice tandem wheels to the local bike coop: 40 spoke, DT Hugi TD hubs, Mavic T520 rims. They look rock-solid and I picked them up in support of a touring bike project. However, it appears the rear hub is spaced at 140 or 145mm.

Were I to use said wheel, I could either cold-set a frame or narrow the hub's spacing. Would setting a frame from 135mm be advisable? How about 126?

The hub body is also significantly narrower than 145mm, and there are spacers on the axle that appear to be removable. However, I am unsure how to disassemble the hub, as there appear to be no tool flats on any element of it. Park advises to pull on the freehub body to remove it. Pulling pretty hard with just my hands doesn't seem to do much. Is Park accurate, and do I just need to apply more force? If so, how?

Edit: I didn't look quite as well as I ought have for the DT tech manual:
