replacment chain guard for 16" bike
Whats the chances of finding a replacement chain guard for my daughters 16" Quest bike? The original is broke in 2 places, so I removed it so it wouldn't become a hazard. But now she gets grease on her calfs and I'm affraid that the times she wears dresses/skirts, it might get caught in the chain.......or I get yelled at by momma for grease being all over her clothes. I did a quick search and no luck finding one online. I might try to zip tie it together and hope to find a better solution.

Search Ebay for Chainguard, they have hundreds there Im sure you can find one that will work
if you can post a picture of the guard you want to replace someone will guide you to the right place.

Little bike like that are plentiful at a thrift store. Some may be of better quality then the one you have.

As Diesel Dan said, check the thrift stores. That's the only place I've found chain guards like the original. You might be able to adapt one of those mountain bike types that is just a plastic disk fastened to the chainring. Bike shops usually have those.

The plastic disk type does not serve the same purpose as the one he is replacing. The one that he needs covers the entire length of the chain to prevent clothes and such from getting soiled or entangled. The circular MTB type is actually a bash guard meant to protect the bike from impacts.

the LBS is his best bet. we used to have dozens lying around that were never put on BNX and freestyle bikes.

I fixed a torn one for my nephew by sanding away the paint on the inside and using a 2 part epoxy for metal to glue a small aluminum patch on the inside. It must be tough, because he rides that thing to death. barring that +1 on thrift shop parts.

The bash guards on mountain bikes are different than the plastic chain guards. Bash guards are metal and replace the big ring. Chain guards are plastic and fasten to the big ring, to keep clothing from getting tangled in the chain and keep grease off of legs. Old ten speeds used chain guards made of light gauge chromed steel.
