do you get excited when you make a ninja bike?

I just fixed my utility bike which I have been riding exclusively and not maintaining. It was very loud before now it is ninja quiet and i think its sooooo cool!

do you guys get excited when your bikes are silent or is it just me?

Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter

I don't know.

For 40+ years, I've never had anything but silent bikes. The loudest sound from any of my bikes was the song of the tire on the pavement, and I'd always turn around to see what was coming when I heard the echo of my drive train as I rode past concrete barriers.

Welcome to the club.

I agree I tend to track down noises and fix them as soon as possible. a noise on a bike, like a car implies something is wrong and needs attention.

OH I did at one time, and misst it greatly, own quite possibly the loudest cassette hub in existance.

I'm a sucker for quiet bikes. That's one reason I enjoy fixed gear bikes. I'm also a die-hard freewheel injector user to muffle the ratchet noise.

A ninja bike is not only silent but invisible in the dark, too, which is not a good thing.

A completely silent bike pretty much has to use a Shimano freehub. Campy, and most other freehubs are noticably noisy when freewheeling. In fact, Shimano makes a hub with a completely silent freehub intended for bike cop use.

I always track down and fix any noise coming from my bike. It helps that I favor BMX bikes, which are pretty simple mechanically. I got passed by somebody on the mountain bike trail yesterday, and his bike was creaking and sqeaking the whole way. That would have driven me nuts. (yes, more so than I already am)

What you are referring to is commonly displayed in the comfort bike market as a "silent hub". Old crankies dont like loud bikes.

An intermittent creak can make a $3k bike feel like a POS.

All my bikes are ninja.
Everytime I'm walking down the street and someone rides by me with a squeaking chain, I want to chase them down and oil it.
