10 speed chain w/ 9 speed Tiagra ?
A friend has a CAAD-9 Tiagra 9-speed. He needs a new chain. I see a few 9 speed chains available, but just wondered if there's a problem (or advantage) running a 10-speed chain on a 9-speed drivetrain ?

no advantage, but shouldn't give any problems as long as the crankset is the 4500 variety.

I'm not sure. It's a triple, and he's planning on removing the inner ring and running it as a double.

"Biggest" issue (in quotes because it's not a big issue) is that the derailler cage will be a bit wide for a 10 speed chain so up and down shifts will be a little slower than if using a 10 speed specific front derailler with it's narrower cage. Otherwise it should work fine. He could always use a 10 speed front derailler to compensate.
