do master links wear out?

I have been using a wipperman connex link on several dura-ace chains for a total @ 4000 miles
never had any issues, do they wear out?

Yup. It may not be an issue currently because it is just one link, but eventually it will cause a skip or just snap.

No less than any other link in the chain. Sram masterlinks are made of more durable material than the chain themselves, so they will wear SLOWER.

I used a Conex link in the same Wippermann chain for 6200 miles and it was still working fine when the entire chain was replaced.
