Avid Disc Brake Pads: Organic Compound with Metal Flecks?

Hi all,

I just bought a set of Avid Disc Brake Pads to replace the ones that came with my BB7. The ones that came with the BB7 are metal sintered. These new ones are labeled ORGANIC COMPOUND.

However, they appear to have silver metallic flecks embedded right in the pad material. Does anybody know if this is in fact metal and, if so, why are the called "organic compound" if they have such metal flecks?

Thanks,

Spock99

Mabey just an illusion, the shiny looking stuff looking like metal particles. My organic pads for my truck looked the same, as did the dirt bike pads. These will have good stopping power but will wear faster.

Thanks for the thoughts. Here is a response I got directly from Avid.

Thanks for your email. Yes, our organic pads have a small amount of metal in them, brass to be specific. We've found that full organic pads didn't pass our internal testing, so we go with a mostly organic compound instead.
Thanks,

I believe the Formula pads are very similar...flecks of metal in them.
